Rail Noise & Vibration Consultants
If you find yourself living or working close to a railway line, you may soon acquire the habit of telling visitors, “It’s not always like this” or “You get used to it”. Deep down, though, you know it does happen all the time and no one should have to get used to it, but what can you do about it?
With railways it is not all about noise; there is vibration there too, and to you it becomes just a part of life. You may feel there is no point complaining about it. You knew the rail disturbance issue existed before you made the decision to live or work in the area you’re in. It feels like you are alone with this problem.
But there is someone on your side. As noise reduction consultants, we at Koikas Acoustics take on all kinds of noise and vibration-related issues. We are rail vibration consultants and rail noise consultants and we’re here to help you achieve a stress-free life from the exposure of noise pollution. It may seem light years away from our work on concert halls and nightclubs, where our clients are the owners and operators making the noise and trying to minimise the impact on the neighbouring areas, but rail issues fall within our area of expertise and we are equipped to help. Rail Acoustic Consultants: Isn’t Anyone Monitoring This?
The first thing many clients in this situation want to know is if there are legal limits to the noise and vibration levels railway companies are permitted to inflict on residents in the surrounding areas, and yes, local and national authorities are aware of the potential problems and make certain demands on the companies concerned. Passenger trains in service are exempt from the Environment Protection Act, but when they are not actually running on a passenger service they are required to follow the rules, as are freight trains. But realistically, you can’t turn down the volume just like that, so although you can report excessive noise, in the vast majority of cases the help we give our clients is in making their properties more soundproof and resistant to vibration.
Keeping the sound out is a logical place to start, and we can advise you on the best windows and doors for the job. Inevitably, though, a certain amount of noise is going to enter the building, and what we can do is manage it, which means making sure the walls, floor and ceiling don’t make matters worse. Hard surfaces bounce the soundwaves around, while softer and more absorbent materials help to kill them.
Regarding vibrations, the fixes are less obvious, but helpful solutions do exist.
Trusted Rail Vibration Consultants
We need to get a good look at the building, take readings and run tests, so we will organise a site visit at your convenience. This will also enable you to point out particular issues you would like to address. Having experienced the situation at first hand, we can then begin drawing up a plan, and once that is agreed, work can begin to bring some peace to your world.
You can call or email us, or fill in the online enquiry form and we will get back to you quickly. Then your problem becomes ours to solve, and we will do our best to fix your problems and make your space more comfortable. You don’t have to suffer in silence – even if silence would be the ideal result. Read Less
